30 gennaio I fancy suing my parents for MurderSounds like a plan! Although, with my father already being dead, i'm guessing that should be singular. That's fine. I don't like my mother anyway! 28 gennaio Mildly annoyed at a couple of Holland quirkies!... possibly the wrong word. lol Incandescent might come closer at times. We bought a microwave a few days ago, which I must admit was my idea. I've missed the facility to "nuke" things, be it Stag Chilli, Xmas pudding (of which I have just indeed partaken of...), or baked spuds. The micro was on offer.. wasn't all singing all dancing, just a simple thing that'll save ass loads of time on stuff. We get to the counter to but the thing and the woman swipes Esther's card, and then asks her her name, and then her address, to which I ask... why does she need your name n address?? She's buying a microwave ffs!! Turns out that they don't require it at all, but E had already given both out happily with no questions asked. And people wonder why they get credit card scams. But wait, there's more. A nice subtle little surcharge was added to the price. Nearly 10% of the value of the microwave was added on! Why?? A recycling tax??!! Apparently it's to pay for disposal of old items which this one was replacing, or perhaps for the disposal of this one after it's done. I forget which but i think it was the first! I was fuming! If the price on the item say X pounds... or rather Euros... then that's what you should pay. I wouldn't have bought it had it have been just me, simply because the cost of the item is not that which it is advertised at! I have something of a theory about it. I suspect that, holland has fallen into the trap, not of blaming fruit, but of becoming a lovely little place where everyone pays by credit card, and basically they pick up their item, swipe their card, and it's done. The extra chunk, 9 times out of ten, wont even be noticed. Nice quick way to make a profit me thinks. Not a happy bunny. 20 gennaio Modern Times, Obama, Gaza, and Ban Ki-Moon I cant help but chuckle. I've sat here just reading about how the UN gen Sec has moaned lots about the destruction in Gaza, and is insisting on a big ole investigation. But.. this is after the ceasefire. After the destruction. If any other country, say for example Iran, decided to do what Israel did to Gaza.. there would be zillions of sanctions, talks of invasion doubtlessly, and other such things. But,in this world, in modern times, people excuse happenings, allow things to happen, and then comment afterwards, especially when its possible that, if they were to speak out/do something before it ends, it might leave themselves open to attack. That kind of stinks of double standards. Wrong is wrong. It should be portrayed as such, and dealt with as such. And then, the tv happens upon jolly old Obama being inaugurated, and I chuckle again. Do people really truly believe that this guy is going to alter anything? He comes proffering hope... but hope is an illusion. Hope exists always in the future, never in the now, and is used like a carrot, dangled before the donkey in order to make said donkey go where it is being led. I wonder at the interesting controversy regarding where he was born. His grandmother and step bro / sis's say he was born in Kenya, as did a Kenyan ambassador, who then claims to have misunderstood the questions... lol... not to mention the $800,000 spent ON birth certs to combat the lawsuits re afore mentioned Kenyan birth. Oops, i wasn't going to mention that. In truth, none of it matters. The world will still be the same place tomorrow as it was yesterday. The bullies of the world will change names, but they will still be bullies. The people who allow themselves to believe so hard in a future utopia, that they pretend the hell of today is justifiable, will therefore still surround themselves with faith, or as i prefer to call it cognitive dissonance, and wait, rather than do. And those of whom the bullies inadvertently (or so we're supposed to believe!!) aid/gain a benefit through the knock on effect, will sit back, voice their concern occasionally, but not so loudly that the bullies notice them, and then reap their ill gotten gains while still maintaining the illusion of credibility. There is enough space on the world to house everyone. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone. There are enough bombs in the world to annihilate everyone. Which of these statements is the most likely to be the first to be executed. These are the modern times we live in. Doesn't it make you proud to be alive!? 14 gennaio Home Again! Well... landed back in sunny Holland all fine and dandy after having spent the weekend in Brum/Wolves/Crewe. Flights there and back on BMI Baby were fine, and we were mildly amused to see "Ice Ice Baby" on the nose-cone of the plane taking us to Birmingham! Time there was spent nosing at the local beer, having a chuckle with Mr Myers in the pub in Crewe, eating out in various Weatherspoons, and two visits to the Gifford in wolves, sat afto for a listen to Yeti's musical offerings and a Hobgoblin or two, and an evening with Sonya, culminating in an indian which caught both E and me off guard with its heat! The hotel, the Brittania in Wolves did eactly what it said on the tin. All travel on trains and planes etc went well too. IN actual fact the only let down really in the whole time was that we never bought what we went for (typical!!) and that a couple of people couldn't make plans to fit us in when this was the first time back on UK soil for me in nearing a year and a half! Spent a couple of hours at Ju's too this time. Not sure if the cats really remembered me though. lol. Picked up an old puzzle book which will doubtless drive me just as insane as it did the first time! I think actually, I got what I wanted out of the trip. We were welcomed into the Gif by Womble of all people, with a hand shake and grin, then by an enthusiastic Yeti. The music was as it should be, the Hobgoblin good, and the feeling of "this is somewhere i can relax and enjoy", I think transferred over to Esther. There is a shared "thing" which goes on in there, something that says everyone is accepted. It's different to the whole Cheers effect, where you want to go where everybody knows your name, because, or at least this is how it appears to me, in the Gif, your name isn't important. Your being there for the right reasons IS. The evening was made better I think by the afternoons experience. And Crewe? Well, it's still Crewe. We were not really about that much there. A meal in the place my arm was broken, and then off to the pub to Anthony. He seemed genuinely pleased to see us. Messing with the music suddenly Whole Lotta Rosie appeared.. with the Angus chant at the start... lol... hmm.. and then, and this shocked me, My Woman from Tokyo! That was thoughtful. Have a feeling it won brownie points with Esther too.. as she knows both songs are fav's of mine. He looked well. Mention of both funerals occurred and was kind of... avoidedish. Probably best. It was good to catch up. I suppose 30 years of history is not something I want to let go of. Picked up a couple of things too. Spiderman Tee shirt! Hulk Tee Shirt! Dutch for Dummies! Alice in Wonderland and the World Trade Centre Disaster (again) by David Icke, and another re-buy, Hollow Chocolate Bunnies by Robert Rankin! All good stuff! lol And on that note, I'm away ! But.. not before I add the Spidey Tee Shirt pic! hehehe 01 gennaio 2009 Well, first New Year as a married man! We went out, had GlenFiddich at 12 midnight and spent the eve in a new rock pub called Brothers-of-Beer, which had opened that night, us being the first two people to buy a beer there! Locals were friendly, beer was ok, and the company was good. Friends appeared at 3am-ish.. and stayed for a beer, then we all buggered off! Been a while since I was out for a change in year. Seems msn has messed this place about. Cant find how to reorder albums or the original storage info which used to give me icons of all the pics i've posted/saved on here, which is a tad annoying. The guitar playing is coming along I think, although i'm still loath to learn chords! I suppose I shall have to, but, i don't want to play chords.. lol! I can muster a reasonable Iron Man, Breaking the Law, and Stairway to Heaven.. as you do... along with Beethoven's 9th as a control piece! Tis a tidy little instrument, makes a nice noice. Also acquired series 2-3-extras of Cracker.. should kill a few hours. Right.. am away to digest the rabbit I just ate...! Toodle Pip! |
